A compass for sailors caught in the high seas, a timekeeper for a regatta racer and a clear reading of time for a navy warrior, the merits of nautical instruments are countless.

The master of the seas has arrived, and in style. The Seamaster Chronograph has a bezel ring that's set in zirconium black and highlights a diving scale in sparkling 18-carat Ceragold. Omega's in-house co-axial calibre 9301 also makes it possible to adjust the hour hand without affecting the accuracy of the minute or seconds hands. This allows sailors to make easy adjustments when they change time-zones. The 'it' thing for water wanderers.

Ulysse Nardin
UN's anchor logo makes its nautical legacy apparent in every timepiece. Their latest marine watch furthers it with a wave motif that runs through its dial, strap and casing. The Black Sea draws its sturdiness from a vulcanised stainless steel case that's coated with matte rubber. The true divers' watch has a diving scale on the bezel, a datetime counter on the dial and luminescent yellow markings make for an easy reading underwater. It is water resistant to 200 metres.

Panerai dials are always large, with clear cut markings that are easy to decipher underwater. This is also the reason why the brand was sported by the Italian navy during the Second World War. The Luminor 1950 is a 44mm auto winding GMT that's encased in scratch resistant black ceramic case. It has a power reserve of three days and is water resistant to 100 metres.
